Why are so many full of resentment? At first thought of the word, I thought of a scorn woman. Resentment defined is the feeling of displeasure or indignation at some act, remark, person, etc., regarded as causing injury or insult. So after getting an understanding of the definition. That opens the door for male and female to harbor resentment. There's often some resentment tied to unresolved family, work, or monogamous relationships. I'll talk on the latter because that's where I feel the most resentment lives. Failing and refusing to forgive breeds resentment. When we harbor resent it hardly ever bothers the person whom we resent but it gnaws away at us to no end. In my opinion resentment is a passive and weak emotion. Refusing to deal with the person and problem and wholeheartedly opposed to forgiving them. By doing such you give the devil and invite in (Ephesians 4:26-27) and you refuse forgiveness from God (Matthew 6:14-15).
"Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die."
- Malachy McCourt
Lets take a look at how resentment tears at the fabric of our lives (Job 5:2). Resentment leads to an extreme sense of self-interest. We are inclined to think of ourselves first. When in a relationship, thoughts that the other person will hurt us. I think we can all testify that due to resentment we have let a "good one" slip by us. Men and women are victims of resentment. We've all been hurt and victims of love, and I use that loosely. From my experience, women tend to put up a wall of protection and unknowingly find themselves trapped and surrounded with emotion. Men have a tendency to become more promiscuous and want every woman to feel the hurt he experienced. What a terrible way to live life. As I blogged previously, loving yourself and having a relationship with God should take precedence. Then when God is finished with you and it's his will, love will find you. The only credit I'll give resentment is that it is the author and inspiration to some of the greatest arts an music. Be strong enough yourself to deal with anger, pain, resentment. Pray, then free it forgiveness and love.
"To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”
- C.S. Lewis
I'm going to veer off but it will come full circle. Liars, cheaters, and the deceitful are the main culprits when it comes to resentment. The devil is the father of the deceitful (Acts 13:10). God hates a lying tongue. Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44), so it makes sense that God hates lying. It's a true saying that bad things happen to good people. Some are truly victims of a lying deceitful person. I recommend those good people let it go to God. Now as I stated previously the majority of us are guilty of harboring resentment. But have we stopped to ponder and be truthful with ourselves that we are the reason someone else may have resentment in their heart? You may lie and be deceitful in other aspects of your life; but when you reap the sowing of those lies who is to know? Could it be we are victims of our own transgressions? The golden rule states, do unto others as you would have them do unto you,
(Matthew 7:12), sums up The Law and Prophets. Let's look go in-depth at the vicious cycle that resentment creates. Since our minds are flooded and fogged with resentment it makes it a challenge to love. We become spiritually blind and and in turn lie and be deceitful to protect ourselves. We are then opposing what is of God (LOVE), holy and good and replace it with evil tendencies unknowingly. No one wants to take responsibility, so there is a perpetual cycle of lies, deceit and hurt. Robbing the world of love and leaving us to settle for impulsive, short lived relationships. Devoid of LOVE.
There is no love without forgiveness and there is no forgiveness without love.
- Bryant H. McGill
I'll leave you with last thought. Stop being a hostage to your own emotions. The love of God that resides in you should never be overtaken and conquered by the lies and deceit of a human being. You are only defeated when you agree that you are. God Bless!
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
