Scandal

I've taken a good bit of criticism because of my views on the tv show Scandal. I just ask if you are an avid fan of Scandal to read this as objectively and unbiased as possible. I haven't watched it in its entirety but I think I've seen enough to realize portions of what portrays isn't quite healthy for impressionable women. So many women are looking for a man who will love them and find them desirable that they will go to any length to acquire that. I asked the question "Am I wrong if parts of Scandal reminds me of the love affair slave owners had with female slaves & her having to please him to get by?" Many beg to differ, so because they enjoy the show and others because they would jump the chance to be Olivia and have what they consider romance. Albeit wrapped in adultery, lies and deception. That's their view of love I guess. I'm not judging.

What is happening in America is that television is transforming all serious public business into junk. Television disdains exposition, which is serious, sequential, rational, and complex. It offers instead a mode of discourse in which everything is accessible, simplistic, concrete and above all, entertaining. As a result, America is the world's first culture in jeopardy of amusing itself to death

I understand the show is seen as a form of entertainment. Some can differentiate between what's seen on tv and what's reality. But most can't or have a hard time dealing with and accepting reality. Lets think about all the young men and women and even younger girls who view this show. I'm sure Olivia is a statue of empowerment for plenty black women. I just wonder how can the same problems that our society is plagued with can be portrayed on television and viewed as entertainment. Every time I open the paper, a magazine or log onto the Internet I see some sort of scandal. Society is infatuated with scandal and gossip (Romans 1:29-30). Now back to regularly scheduled blog. Those who have a weak mind will view this as acceptable. They will look to peers and influential people in their life for approval. We have to be cognizant we don't unknowingly send someone down the wrong path. (1 Corinthians 8:9-10) These tv shows area tainting the minds of too many and they are convinced that's life. Television doesn't provide the opportunity for us to think outside the box or delve into thought because of its banality. In closing, this wasn't written as a negative review of Scandal. As I wrote this I'm listening to Runaway Girl by Ludacris. Some were that little girl until someone extended a hand and taught you the difference between reality and tv. This was written for the little girl or young women who don't have a father, mother, or strong figure in her life to help her deal with problems such as these. It was written so that if you see someone struggling or in the same situation as Olivia that you who are of a strong mind and good morals that you correct them and lead them in the direction of The Lord. God Bless.

Philippians 2:2-4
Amplified Bible (AMP)
2 Fill up and complete my joy by living in harmony and being of the same mind and one in purpose, having the same love, being in full accord and of one harmonious mind and intention.
3 Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind) let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves].
4 Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not [merely] his own interests, but also each for the interests of others.
