I was listeneng to Wale’s Ambition and heard this line; Nobody wants to lead because it’s to easy to follow. Somewhere along those lines, but anyway. In my opinion I feel people are afraid to be themselves so the take to social media to see what is trending. I can honestly say I was once guilty of this. Everyone wants to be accepted. No one wants to be the odd man/woman out. But when we are ourselves that makes us unique, more noticeable to others. It is easy to blend in, wear what others are wearing, snapbacks and skinny jeans. Or maybe the latest brand, just as an example.
What is a follower? A follower is defined as, an adherent or devotee of a particular person, cause, or activity. For the sake of brevity we all know the people, causes and activities that majority are following. I won’t ask why because I feel  have a pretty good idea why, the majority can’t be wrong. I beg to differ in most cases, smoking because you think it is cool or getting tatted just because. These two subjects seem to bother me for whatever reason. i will use my time in the military as a reference, this is where I see a good bit of life fabrication.
I see plenty guys who come into the military who are clean cut good guys don’t drink, no tattoos. They get hooked up with the wrong people and feel the have to do certain things because everyone else is and to fit in why not get some tattoos plenty which i have see are meaningless. Why i say meaningless because I ask why and they have no sound reason why. Or I hear because I like this ir that, why? Just because, oh ok cool. Next everyone wants to be a drinker or smoker, becauses of Wiz or Weezy. i see guys drinking who never drunk and tell me I drunk before, really? That statement lets me further know you are reaching to fit in and disaster is ahead. Or guys who come in and claim they smoked more weed that Weezy or drunk lean like they were UGK or were gangbanging or whatever. I’m tired of hearing the stories. They listen to rap songs and try to come back with weight measurments to drugs and double cupping or whatever.
When has being a drug dealer cool or drinkning jusst because cool. Growing up everyone I seen doing it didn’t want to but they had to. It was an only source of income, due to may it be felony convictions, no education or family reasons. That is why it burns me to see people following and thinking this is a cool thing to do. It really isn’t. I hate seeing my generation misguided by the media I won’t blame it on parents solely. If parents are anything like my mother then it isn’t there fault. I’m more than positive that the majority of parents are hardworking, honest, and caring people who set a good example for their kids. They want there kids to be better than them. We don’t need more positive role models there are plenty. They are followed by people who want to be positive or take that path in life and the same goes for the sold called “bad role models.” We all choose to follow who we would like to model ourselves after. A role model is just that be it labeled good or bad.
I pray everyone, whomever they choose to follow can differentiate right from wrong and make the right decisions. A great leader was once a follower at one point. They took what they learned and used to lead others and make a difference, good or bad. All great leaders weren’t good people. In my opinion we are all leaders and follwers at the same time, so follow the right people so that you won’t lead those who follow you astray.
In conclusion take a step back and reevaluate who you are modeling yourself after and make sure that person is headed in the direction you want your future to be headed. If not, its never to late to make a positive change.
