The issue of praising God and looking for monetary gifts and an abundance of possessions to validate our praise and worship is a problem in my eyes. It is said that God wants us to prosper and have everything our hearts desire and to obtain these we must have faith in God. And claim it! So instead of seeking God for eternal life, we seek him so we may prosper in life. I oppose to that wholeheartedly because the bible says the opposite. To store your riches in heaven and not earth. Whatever your heart is desired on is where your treasure is. So if you desire to have endless earthly possessions, where do you think your heart lies? (Matthew 6:19-21). It isn't that God doesn't want us to enjoy the life he has set forth for us, he wants us to seek him exclusively. He wants our hearts on Him only. God is a jealous God, he will bless us with what he sees fit. (Matthew 6:3). God isn't impressed by how much you can acquire (Luke 12:15). When its all said and done you don't want to be called a fool by God, when we depart this life the possession we desire will here will be someone else's (Luke 12:20).
As a society we have become greedy. Fixated on money and material gain. I'm guilty of it also. We have more faith that money can solve our problems. But when it comes to having faith in God, we have reservations. Unless we are praying to Him to bless us with money (1 Timothy 6:9-10). I tell you this, you have to choose either God or money. I choose God and urge you to do the same (Matthew 6:24). We can't be lukewarm with God (Revelation 3:16). Look at the people who love money and have it in abundance. They seem to never get enough. Those same money hungry people are driving our country into debt and the impoverished deeper into poverty. I'm sure those same people attend church and profess to be Christians, but read the parable about the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:14-31). Now tell me who fared out better in eternal life. No matter how much you acquire. Those possessions tend to get old, outdated, broken, lost and or lose their value all together. God wants you follow Him and get ready for your true treasure in Heaven!
(Luke 12:33)
When disaster strikes we are all compelled to give for a good cause. When we see someone who is homeless or poor, not so much. Why can't they get a job? It's not my fault they're homeless (Proverbs 21:13) . As a Christian and new creation in Christ. We should be eager to help those we see in need (Matthew 5:42). Jesus showed compassion to the poor, healed the sick and sat with lepers. Jesus flipped tables in the temple area of the greedy and those who were in love with their money (Matthew 21:12). If asked would you be willing to live Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and agive to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
As I said before the bible tells us to be content with what we have because we have God (Hebrew 13:5). Their isn't any amount of money that can get you into heaven. Also the bible states that being with the poor is better than rubbing elbows with the rich (Proverbs 16:9). Even Jesus preferred to be with the oppressed rather than enter into Rome amongst the wealthy and the elite. Also the Beatitudes state that the poor will inherit the Kingdom of God. Furthermore, a camel can go through the eye of a needle easier than a rich man can enter Heaven. Remember at the day of judgment is where you will receive your true reward. (Matthew5:12 Luke14:14). The major premise of this blog is to get your mind off money and onto God. I leave you with this quote:
- Chaz Gerard Tyler
"And I fear that there may be many hearing me who may know well that they are not Christians, because they do not love to give. To give largely and liberally, not grudging at all, requires a new heart. An old heart would rather part with its life-blood than its money. Oh my friends, enjoy your money. Make the most of it. Give none of it away. Enjoy it quickly, for I can tell you, you will be beggars throughout eternity.”
